Fiona Findlay

Fiona Findlay originally trained in silversmithing and jewellery design, graduating with a BA Honours in 1997.

Fiona has focused her work in recent years on her first love of ceramics, finding an immaediacy with clay that metal does not always offer. Working in stoneware from her garden studio in Fleet, Hampshire, Fiona primarily makes wheel-thrown items for practical use. Her background in fine metalwork is evident in the scale and finish of some of her purely decorative pieces, such as her current range of small model houses. These little houses start life on the wheel, being constructed of thrown slab, which lends an interestin character to their surface.

These small pieces feature elements of architecture, the shape of a window or the line of a roof which perhaps the viewer may find compelling or familiar.
