After employment as a ceramicist in several UK workshops he established his own workshop in his hometown of Merseyside in 1988. Whilst there he combined lecturing part time at Wirral Metropolitan College with producing his own thrown tin-glazed tableware until a move to Bermuda in 1995 where he lived and worked for a further three years. Simon has since returned to Merseyside yet the colours and inspiration from his time in Bermuda are very apparent in the work that he produces today.
The work is thrown in stoneware, earthenware and raku clay combinations, with turning kept to a minimum; the main emphasis is on colour, using dry, matt and textured glazes as enhancements.
